Chaos: The Beginning
Chaos the Beginning is an American science fiction film, based on Patrick Ness's novel The Knife of Never Letting Go, the first part of the Chaos Walking trilogy. With award-winning actors like Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland, Nick Jonas and the famed Mads Mikkelsen, expectations for this production that has been postponed since 2017 were undoubtedly quite high.
It tells the story of a post apocalyptic world to which humans have moved, settling in the settlement of "Prentistown"; The curious thing here is that, on the one hand, there are no women or more adolescents than Todd Hewitt, the protagonist, and, furthermore, there is this phenomenon they call noise, which is an auditory and even visual projection of the thoughts of the people who it seems to occur automatically in every inhabitant of the place.
Tom will later meet Viola, a woman who came on a ship from space and who is apparently in danger in Prentistown, so they both embark on a journey to the neighboring settlement, in which they begin to trust each other and discover more. about their own worlds.
Perhaps the fact that the expectations were so high was the cause of the unpleasant disappointment that I took with this film: From the patches between scenes to the forced dialogues they are proof that, despite the great potential that there was in the book and the repertoire of themes (such as patriarchy, discrimination, oppression or femicide) that it had waiting to be exploited, but were almost completely suppressed in this adaptation.
Of course, we can rescue the montage, the action and the costumes, as well as the role of Aaron that they were able to reflect very well on the film; Although it is not the best recommended among the few releases that we have in this pandemic, it is an entertaining film and a good option to enjoy with the family.
